How Auctions & Sales Actually Work
- Guaranteed Bidders: No ghosting. Buyers must have a valid credit card on file to place a bid or buy.
- Automated Payments: When a buyer wins an auction or clicks Buy-It-Now, their card on file is charged instantly. You don’t have to chase down winners, wait 48 hours for a Venmo transfer, or send reminders.
- Automated 2-Minute Anti-Snipe: If a bid comes in during the last 2 minutes, the clock automatically adds 120 seconds. The site handles the clock, eliminating arguments over comment timestamps or ninja-edited bids.
- Organized Bidding: Bids are tracked in real time on the listing, and outbid buyers receive automated alerts to keep the bidding active—no refreshing comment threads to see who was first.
- Order Fulfillment & Shipping: Verified shipping addresses and tracking live right in your dashboard. Just enter a USPS or UPS tracking number, and the buyer is updated automatically upon drop-off—no digging through private messages.
- Searchable Listings: Listings don’t get buried down a feed after a few hours. Buyers can browse and search directly by category and shipping readiness until the listing ends.
- Your Own Vendor Page: You get a dedicated store URL showing your bio, current inventory, and completed reviews.
Fees & Payouts
- Platform Commission: 5% promotional rate through December 1st; 8% standard platform fee after that. (Compared to eBay, which takes 13%+ in final value fees).
- Shipping is Yours: We take 0% commission on your shipping charges. What you charge for postage, boxes, and heat packs goes to you. (Unlike eBay, which takes a percentage out of your shipping charges and sales tax).
- No Listing Fees: Free to list. If an item doesn’t sell, it costs you nothing.
- Payment Processing: Standard Stripe processing fees (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction).
- Payouts: Handled directly through Stripe. New or unvetted accounts have initial payouts cleared after tracking shows delivery to keep buyers confident and prevent scammers from burning the platform.
Established Growers (Fast-Track)
If you already have a verifiable reputation in the plant community, you do not have to wait on delivery holds:
- How to Qualify: When applying or onboarding, provide a link to your established profile (e.g., your Reddit profile with positive feedback flair on
r/sanpedrocactusforsale, an established plant Instagram/Facebook store, or an existing nursery website). - Payout Terms: Once confirmed, your account is set to standard rolling Stripe payouts (typically funds clear to your bank account within 2 business days of the transaction).
New Sellers (The Graduation Period)
If you are new to selling online or do not have a public selling history we can verify, your account starts on a standard probationary safety tier:
- Delivery-Based Release: For your first 3 to 5 completed sales, order funds are released directly to your Stripe balance as soon as the carrier tracking number (USPS or UPS) updates to Delivered.
- Automatic Graduation: Once you successfully deliver those first few orders with zero buyer disputes, chargebacks, or unfulfilled packages, your account graduates out of escrow and onto standard 2-day rolling payouts.
Why This Exists: Because CactiBid charges buyers’ cards immediately upon auction close, this prevents bad actors from creating burner accounts to collect payouts on fake cuts or unrooted plants. It protects the platform’s chargeback reputation and guarantees buyers feel safe bidding real money on every listing.
